Dear Subscribers,
The recent super typhoons that hit the Asian countries like the Philippines
gave me the idea to focus on "What To Do During Disasters like Flash Floodings".
This is our October 2009 Healthy Tips Theme:
"Basic Guide Lines During Disasters"
The material presented here is a collaborative work by the agencies listed at the bottom of each page of the disaster guide. This guide is an attempt to present the best advice for most natural disaster situations. This does not mean that it presents the best advice for all situations. For example you may follow the advice and leave your mobile home to get in a ditch and the tornado may leave your mobile home unharmed, but injure or kill you in the ditch.
Floods are among the most frequent and costly natural disasters in terms of human hardship and economic loss. As much as 90 percent of the damage related to all natural disasters (excluding droughts) is caused by floods and associated debris flows. Most communities in the United States can experience some kind of flooding. Over the 10-year period from 1988 to 1997, floods cost the Nation, on average, $3.7 billion annually. The long-term (1940 to 1999) annual average of lives lost is 110 per year, mostly as a result of flash floods.
Flood and Land Slide Victims From the Philippines Need Your Help
The recent two Typhoon Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng brought severe floodings which resulted in the loss of many lives and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. This site compiles relevant information about the disaster, including a volunteer-maintained map of persons needing rescue and a list of relief organizations accepting donations, so that more help can be provided where it is needed. You can also keep track of the latest news on Google News and YouTube.
I am a flash flood victim of Ondoy Flash Flood myself, but I am not appealing for myself, but for my thousand co-victims who needed it most. I wish you could help me appeal for help to your network for the flash flood victims of typhoon “Ondoy”.
