What is the difference between dandruff and head lice?
According to the Study, it is found that dandruff affects 50% of the population. It is surprisingly common. Dandruff may result due to dry or oily skin and can even be influenced by changes in weather. It is just the shedding of dead skin. It isn’t transmittable (Except for dandruff caused by fungal infections), but it can be hereditary.
School-going kids are especially prone to head lice since it is highly transmittable. Lice can be transferred through bedding, hair combs, and brushes and even through clothes. They are not harmful but can cause discomfort and embarrassment. The most apparent sign of both dandruff and lice is an itchy scalp.
The types of dandruff and head lice, how are they caused and can be identified
Many things can cause dandruff. Dry skin is one of the most common causes. This is usually caused due to change in weather, sulfur shampoos or by not shampooing regularly. They are generally round white flakes. Oily skin produces sebum that causes irritation and can arise due to periods, pregnancy, and stress. Their yellowish round flakes can distinguish them. Dandruff can also be caused due to fungal and yeast infections.
Lice or louse occur as two kinds – adult lice and eggs (nits). Nits are tan colored and are usually attached to strands of hair and need to be removed individually using a lice comb.
